There is peace again in the warehouse at the Sacndinavieweg. Last week the goods were brought in, controlled and transported to all the different locations. “The warehouse was responsible for the storage and distribution of a variety of goods: from clothing to posters and towels”, says Henk Hijland manager of the warehouse. The warehouse measures 3264 m² and it counts with a two hundred-meter storage space. The preparations were not easy. A crew of twelve volunteers (three of which slept in the warehouse) prepared the packages to be delivered to each location. Henk, who was also the transport coordinator said: “I have two vehicles to my disposal that were coming and going to all the different locations last week”.
Even during the games the volunteers are kept busy with the preparation and transportation of goods and orders to the locations. Orders can be made until five o’clock in the afternoon, after which Henk and his volunteers begin to make the packages. The volunteers deliver then the packages the next day between seven and twelve in the morning.
After the Games the goods will of course have to be returned to the suppliers. On Saturday they will begin the gathering of the goods. Henk and his volunteers are also responsible for this. The following days all the packages will be prepared to be returned to the suppliers by July first, at the latest. “It is a lot of work, but we do it so that the athletes can enjoy a fantastic time” were Henk Nijland’s closing words.
